Epoxy floor paint is commonly used nowadays because it has various functions and good performances such as wear resistance and anti-static. Many workshops, warehouses, parking lots and hospitals use epoxy floor paint. Although epoxy floor paint has good performance, it also depends on the construction level. If the construction is not properly handled, it will lead to various film problems. Blistering is a major problem that affects the anti-corrosion and decorative effects of epoxy floor paint. Today, we will analyze the causes of blistering in the topcoat of epoxy floor paint and how to avoid it.
Substrate treatment
If the ground is not cleaned properly, after cleaning the ground, the cement floor is not completely dry and has a high moisture content. The water vapor cannot be evaporated, which causes blistering of the top coat film.
Interval time
Generally, the construction interval needs to wait until the previous paint is dried before applying the top coat. If the previous paint is not dry and the top coat is applied, it will result in excessive moisture in the paint film, and the moisture will evaporate and cause blistering on the surface of the epoxy floor paint.
Damp ground
In some areas, the groundwater level is high. After the construction of epoxy floor paint is completed, the evaporation of the damp gas permeated from the underground will cause blistering of the paint film.
Paint formulation problem
Many people do not add defoamers when formulating paint. Adding defoamers can reduce the possibility of bubbles caused by the paint itself.
Temperature and humidity issues
When the air humidity is too high during construction, the moisture content on the surface of the bottom paint film will increase significantly. After the completion of the floor paint, the evaporation of water will generate bubbles.
Based on the reasons mentioned above, we can summarize the measures to avoid blistering in floor paint.
Substrate moisture problem
The substrate should be cleaned properly, and the moisture content of the ground should be below 8% before construction. Epoxy seal primer can be used to prevent moisture and water damage.
Paint film moisture problem
Multiple layers of paint should be applied after the previous paint is dried, and the air humidity during the construction of epoxy floor paint should not exceed 80%.
Use an appropriate amount of defoamer
When blistering occurs in epoxy floor paint, you should wait and observe first, as some bubbles will disappear after drying. If the bubbles do not disappear after the film is dry, you should consider the size of the blistering area. If it is a small area, you can sand off the blistering area and redo it. If it is a large area or the entire surface of the floor paint has bubbles, it must be removed and redone.
